DriveClub Release Date Announced
Sony has finally announced the release date of the highly anticipated DriveClub. Slated for North America on October 7th, 2014, DriveClub was originally supposed to be a launch title for the Playstation 4. In addition to DriveClub, a PS Plus edition was going to be released alongside it at launch to give PS Plus members a taste of a “freemium” version of the game to get their feet wet. The game was delayed and after a lengthy silence about DriveClub, the release date is now official for October 7th in North America.
Shuhei Yoshida, Sony’s head of Worldwide Studios attributed some of the delay due to the social media technologies going into the game not working quite like Evolution Studios wanted. From my personal experience playing a version of the game at PAX Prime back in August, I can understand that social media and player connectivity will play a huge factor in the game. While it’s a bummer it was pushed back almost a year, I’m hoping the extra time in development is worth it.
I’m psyched to see DriveClub finally get an official release date, and even more psyched that it’s releasing on my birthday in the UK (October 10th), October 8th (Europe) and October 7th in North America. I’m sure in the coming weeks we will see more news regarding DriveClub, but feel free to check out the current release trailer here, courtesy of IGN.
