PlayStation Plus: December Preview
Rejoice! The PlayStation 4 is finally here, and PlayStation Plus members were greeted with not one but two free games for the Instant Game Collection, in Resogun and Contrast. However, with the two PS4 games we were treated with last month, there are no new PS4 games this time around, but we are greeted with some very high quality PS3 and PS Vita games. PlayStation Plus is offering racing games, which seem to be the focus this month, which coincides with the next entry in the Gran Turismo series. In addition this month, an Indie PSN game, and one of the biggest shooters in 2012 rounds out the month. The PlayStation Plus free games for December are as follows:
Grid 2 (PS3): Released earlier this year, Grid 2 tasks you with racing against the most elite racers in the world in the World Series Racing event. Developed by veterans of racing games, Codemasters included a new handling system for the game called “TrueFeel”, which aims for a middle ground between realism and accessibility. A broad online racing campaign also adds to the games longevity.
Borderlands 2 (PS3): Set in the massive world of Pandora, you can try to go it alone, or you can team up with 3 other friends and find loot and treasure, and blow things up in the process. Since its release in September of last year, it has received high praise from critics and fans, and new downloadable content is still being released for the game. If you are looking for a great game to jump online with friends to collect new weapons and improve your character, look no further than Borderlands 2.
Dyad (PS3): A PSN game released last year, Dyad is a fast-paced psychedelic game based on momentum. Matching 2 orbs of a same color will increase your speed. The goal is to constantly increase your speed while avoiding enemies. It seems simple at first, but once you jump into the challenge missions after each level, you’ll realize how tough it really gets. For people who enjoy music, and experimental games, this is for you.
Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed (PS Vita): Join Sonic and his friends from other famous SEGA franchises as they race together to see who can be the best. Don’t pass this game off as being another Mario Kart rip-off, though being heavily inspired by it, Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed brings many new ideas to the table itself with a great emphasis on presentation and racing mechanics.
Urban Trial Freestyle (PS Vita): Using an urban landscape, you attempt to maneuver on a 2D plane past crazy sidewalks, cars, and ramps while at the same time pulling off tricks such as 360s and wall rides. Customizing your motorbike to your preference will help improve the score you set in the Time Attack and Stunt Modes. Being heavily inspired by the Trials series, it does an adequate job of catching that familiar feel, and trying something new.
