PAX East 2014: Secret Ponchos Update
Secret Ponchos is a Spaghetti-Western style twin-stick shoot’em up game coming to the PS4 and Steam. If you’ve never heard of it at all, check out our first interview with the guys at Switchblade Monkeys, the developers of the game here.
In a nutshell, Secret Ponchos is a fast-paced, twin-stick shooter where you play against your friends for the most kills/points. Twin-stick means that you’re moving your character with the left stick, and aiming your shot/attack with the right stick, in constant motion. Well, I suppose you could stand still and line up your shots, but you’ll probably get stomped on by the other players. It’s incredibly fast paced and the maps have been expanded and graphically enhanced to make the gameplay even more fun. A few things to highlight about improvements:
- UI: The User Interface, Game Menus, and in-game HUD have been revamped and are very easy to navigate and understand. Subtle changes but I definitely took note from Prime. Very nice.
- Buildings: In-game buildings in the PAX Prime build were not accessible. The game maps have all been re-designed and many have buildings or areas that you can go into, so that you can take the fight INSIDE, or run inside and hide from an enemy. It adds a whole new dynamic to battle as you don’t know if anyone is inside until you go inside, and vice versa applies as well.
- Game Environments: The game environments have received a major overhaul, including realistic lighting and shadow effects, grass and other nature elements are more defined and have movement and lighting effects as well.
- Playability: Secret Ponchos will run at 60fps at full 1080P on the Playstation 4. It is very smooth, very crisp, and looks beautiful even when 8 people are wreaking havoc on your character on screen while you’re trying to reload.
If you were on the fence about Secret Ponchos, you better load up. This game is going to be coming to Steam (PC) via Steam Early Access Summer 2014, so keep your eyes peeled for that. Playstation 4 owners will have to wait till Fall 2014, but it will be well worth the wait for this awesome game.
